Book Blog

I recently read Between Shades of Grey, by Ruta Sepetys. This story follows a 15 year-old girl named Lina who lives in Lithuania, with her father who is a professor at a nearby school, mother, and brother. They lived a happy life, until the soviets knocked on their door, and abducted them fro their home. While being forced to walk through their town their father gets separated from them. Once they reach the car that would take them to their next stop, a woman is giving birth, making them stop at a local hospital for multiple hours. The next morning they reach a train station where officers attempt to separate Lina's brother from her and her mom. After paying the officer they get to keep him with them. They ride on many trains, and eventually find their father, but only for a minute.

I won't give the rest of the plot away.

But this story is a very interesting and very well written story that tells of a girl who tries each and every day to get out of her situation. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy stories about perseverance and hope. I also think you would enjoy it if you liked books like: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Number the Stars.
