The overnight was going
well. The campers were sitting around the campfire, talking, laughing. Talking
about how glad they were. How glad they were that they had decided to do the
longer, harder hike. The hike that took them almost five hours. It was great.
Never had this group gotten along so well. Then thunder, lightning, rain. More
than pouring, more than any of them had ever seen in their lives.
The counsellor’s radios
were going crazy. You see, they were at 12,000ft, more than 4 hours from
anyone. The only way out was to hike through a meadow, an hour and a half long,
straight up hill hike , in the rain, with nothing for the lightning to strike
except them.
“Everybody pack up
everything in your tents and we’ll come around to tell when we’re leaving.” The
lead counsellor shouted.
The campers scrambled
to pack up their things. They were rushed, they were scared.
“Open up” one of the
counsellors said to one of the girls tents.
They did.
“Okay guys, so although
it is dangerous here it is more dangerous to walk across the meadow to meet the
buses. So unpack your stuff and we’ll stay here until further notice.”
The girls nodded their
heads nervously.
“So BS?” the counsellor
asked.
The girls nodded again.
Once the game was in
play, there was a banging on the tent.
Sounds scary, but maybe a little fun. Nice slice!
